I am running for re-election as State Representative from br>
Chittenden 7-4.
I have been thrilled to represent my extended neighborhood in the
Vermont House. I have absolutely loved all of the conversations with
constituents. I have listened as well as I know how. I have
responded to every inquiry, every request. I have made my voting
decisions only after careful consideration. I have not been able to
please everyone all of the time with my votes, but I have been
forthright in explaining the “why” of my votes.
Even as a first-term legislator, I have managed to “make a mark.” For
instance, H.356, a bill I sponsored, became law. It is now
unambiguous that it is just as illegal to litter the State’s waters as
it is to litter the State’s land. For my committee, I was entrusted
with two particularly complex and important bills… the open meeting
bill and the pay act. When I reported the open meeting bill on the
Floor, there was only one question forthcoming. When I reported the
pay act on the Floor, there was not a single question… and I was
virtually showered with compliments on my presentation by colleagues
of every political persuasion. The same sort of non-partisan,
extraordinary complimentary response came following my presentation of
JRS27, the resolution which has made Vermont the first state to take a
formal stand against big money in politics.
I have worked hard. My learning curve went straight up, and continues
to do so. I hope to continue that hard work and that learning. As a
second-term legislator, I should be able to accomplish that much
more… and make my constituents proud.

legislative and personal (www.maidatownsend.org). I look forward to
more exhilarating conversations as I again come door-to-door, looking
to hear what’s on your mind. In the meantime, do not hesitate to
